C'est un jour important pour Alberto Castellani (Ray Lovelock), un grand entrepreneur de l'industrie de la construction navale de luxe à Trieste. Sa fille Laura (Anna Valle) est sur le point d'épouser Marco Damiani (Lorenzo Flaherty), PDG de son entreprise. Les amis les plus proches du couple sont présents au mariage : Luca Calligaris (Paolo Seganti) et Paolo Bianchi (Giovanni Guidelli). Marco est sur le point de réaliser son rêve : il a fallu dix ans pour amener Laura à prononcer le oui fatidique et à la convaincre de se refermer définitivement avec le passé, un passé douloureux dont on parle rarement : la mort, dans un accident de mer, de Andrea Damonte, premier petit ami de Laura et ami cher de Marco, Paolo et Luca.
